The water quality of a small urban catchment near Durban, South Africa

Description :
The results of fortnightly baseflow quality analyses of a small urban catchment are reported. It is shown that the geological formations in the catchment, consisting mainly of Table Mountain Sandstone, have a limited effect on the water quality. Pollution in the catchment is rather the determining agent. Variations in anion and cation concentrations at the different sampling points are explained and related to possible pollution sources. Seasonal variations in anion and cation concentrations are also illustrated and related to rainfall conditions. (AJC).
