Study of the contamination of the rural atmosphere by industrial or urban plumes, and quantification of the contamination of agricultural soils by heavy elements in Belgium. A transfer of heavy metals towards rural environments was observed, where they are eventually deposited on the soil by sedimentation, or in the precipitations. In certain European regions the contamination rate due to airborne particles is much higher than the contamination rate due to the use of chemical fertilizers. (LW).
