Weathering rates of limestone tombstones measured in Haifa, Israel

The rate of weathering of limestone tombstones has been studied in the city of Haifa, Israel. Measuring the relative height of lead lettering on tombstones with a micrometer and relating it to the age the inscription yields the rate of weathering. The rate of limestone weathering in Haifa was found to be 0.005 mm/year. It is suggested that an exponential curve is a better fit than a linear curve when relating weathering to time.
