Problems on zonation of high-altitude permafrost.
Auteur :CHENG, Guo-dong
Description :
Zonation of high-altitude permafrost is examined in relation to variations in altitude, latitude, and aridity (longitudinal extent). A new scheme for classification into zones is suggested. Various combinations of elevation, latitude and distance from ocean produce different permafrost vertical spectrums. Curve fitting provides empirical correlation between lower limits of high-altitude permafrost and latitude. Discrepancy in the relationship between the rate of lowering of the permafrost and the increase of precipitation north and south of 40 N is explained. (TNC).
