A major investment decision such as plant location has a time perspective of ten years or more in heavy industry. A corresponding guesstimate on the major items of revenue and cost is needed. A Case based on real world data is offered. The case discusses the decision-making situation, follows the life cycle of the investment, identifies the prime items of profit and evaluates the management's possibilities of influencing and forecasting them. The case is the Kokkola sulphur Plant of Outokumpu Oy, Finland.
