Description :
The volume is divided into two sections. The larger of the two, that on return migration, contains papers on return to Puerto Rico (Johnson and Levine), the English speaking Caribbean (Rubenstein and Richerdson), Costa Rica and El Salvador (Poitras), the Dominican Republic (Ugalde and Langham), Suriname (Bovenkerk) and to India from the Caribbean (Samaroo). All the articles focus mainly on the role and character of the individual in the return migration process. With varying degrees of incisivness the broad demographic, social and economic characteristics of Caribbean return are outlined and the causes and impact of particular return movements discussed. The data bases upon which these observations are constructed range from national scale surveys in El Salvador and the Dominican Republic to smaller, anthropological-style investigations in Suriname and the Leeward Caribbean.
