The commuter zone as a relocation choice of low income migrants in a step-wise pattern to Port-of-Spain, Trinidad

Auteur :
CONWAY, D.

Description :
Step-wise migration is conceived as a process of human spatial behaviour in which individuals or families embark on a migration path of acculturation which gradually takes them, by way of intermediate steps, from a traditional-rural environment to the modern-urban environment. Here the relative significance of step-wise migration as a process of rural-urban relocation to Port-of-Spain, Trinidad is assessed. A distinction is made between hierarchical and spatial step-wise patterns and the role of commuting, as a factor influencing the relocation behaviour of cityward migrants, is highlighted. (MPM).
