Monitoimipaikkaiset teollisuusyritykset ja kehitysalueen ulkoinen kontrolli Suomessa. (Multilocational industrial firms and external control in the Finnish development area)

Auteur :
VIRKKALA, S.

Description :
This article deals with the external control of the industry in the Finnish development area. The core-periphery model is used by describing the relationships between the main plants (= the core) and the branch plants (= the periphery) of the multilocational firms. The empirical analysis of the external control bases on data about the spatial organisation of industrial firms in Finland in 1980. The firms operating in the development area are classified according their spatial organisation in 5 different categories. The extent, features and sources of the external control are discussed. Finally, the characteristics of the spatially hierarchical firms with control units in Helsinki region and branch plants also in the development area are discussed.
