Description :
The glacial stratigraphy was studied in 200 excavation pits in the province of Kainuu, eastern Finland. Observations were made on the glacial morphology and deposits, including structural features, colour, wetness, packing and the quantity, size and roundness of the pebbles, stones and boulders. 173 till fabric analyses (including inclination) and a large number of granulometric, lithological and trace metal analyses were perfomed in order to determine the characteristics of the till units. Most of the glacial sediments originate from the Weichselian deglaciation around 10 000 B.P.
