In the sedimentation cycles coarse and fine deposits grade into each other with no sharp boundaries. Periods of several years and those of several ten thousands of years are also observed. Combined with malacological, palynological, climatological and paleomagnetic investigations minute subdivisions of the Quaternary are achieved. (DLO).
