On problems of petroleum towns.

Petroleum wells usually are scattered over a wide area. The siting of settlement points should consider the distance to be covered by workers daily, the requirement of site location for industries associated with petroleum, and avoid interference with exploration work. Petroleum towns usually spring up within a short time. They have simple functions and do not provide a variety of occupation for workers'families who have to turn to agriculture. Population growth shows definite stages. These characteristics suggest a few guiding principles for planning. Harmony between agricultural and industrial activities is important for maximizing the utility of all resources. (TNC).
