Past and present environments of the Nyika Plateau, Malawi
Auteur :MEADOWS, M. E.
Description :
This article presents a review of the contemporary and recent environments of the Nyika Plateau, an area of high altitude in northern Malawi. Present day vegetation, a mosaic of grassland with patches of montane forest superficially appears to have been derived from human activities. This contention is discussed in the light of three main types of evidence: pedological, geomorphological, and palaeoecological| and an environmental history spanning the Holocene is interpreted.
