A study of the impact of reclamation on coastal processes in Hong Kong involves monitoring of post-reclamation changes and simulation of processes associated with a reclaimed shoreline in the wave tank. Findings reveal the role played by reclamation in modifying current flow, tidal ventilation, littoral drift and wave pattern. How far the resultant redistribution of wave energy, locally enhanced by the presence of a typhoonal environment and coastal reservoirs, modifies the spatial pattern of erosion and silting merits close attention.
