If it is true that a complete study goes through the construction and simulation of a mathematical model, the latter could in no way justify by itself its significance, considering the principles governing its elaboration. The model merely appears as a support for description possessing the unique quality to make it possible to realize a test of conformity with the hypotheses. One may propose a distinction by objectives of the systems dynamics studies between conceptual analyses, information circuits and prospectives.
