The objectives of the multiyear complex research programme for investigating the physics of water exchange across the Darss Sill have been derived from the present knowledge of this process. The programme and first results of the pilot experiment (Water Experiment across the Darss Sill), carried out in August-September 1980, are presented. (HL).
