Bancroft filariasis can be found throughout West Africa with the exception of the driest regions and above a certain altitude. The distribution of this disease varies, however, according to bio-climatic zones. Even within these zones, local occurrences of the disease can be observed in the vicinity of water pools. Such bio-ecological conditions are not the sole contributor to favorable host conditions for the disease vector| human behaviour is a major contributory cause. Human action on environment, and the environmental changes which result from human action, may be regarded as the primary causes of Bancroft filariasis as a major disease in the future.
