Etude de la convection au-dessus de l'Atlantique tropical au large de l'Afrique occidentale

Daily infrared imagery from the geostationary satellite GOES-EAST at 14.00 GMT is used to study the distribution of convective cells over the eastern tropical Atlantic during the rainy season (august-october) of the years 1977-1981. The convective activity and the distribution of convective cells seem to be controlled by orographic influence from the coastal Fouta Djalon mountains, by local oceanic temperature conditions and by dynamic influence in the vicinity of Green Cape Islands.
