Les ménages d'une personne: l'évolution récente

Auteur :
ROUSSEL, L.

Description :
Over the last twenty years the number of one-person households in the industrial countries has greatly increased: in many cases it has doubled or even trebled. The population of one-person households is very-heterogenous as it includes persons of all ages marital statuses. A more detailed analysis shows that there has been an especially marked increase in the numbers of young bachelors and divorced men. The analysis suggest that the growth so the number of one-person households (except for widowers and widows) reflects an increase in the number of temporary situations in an individual's life when he or she is moving from one multi-person household to another, rather than a permanent increase in stable solitary life situations. Despite the economic crisis it is probable that this mobility will continue, and may even grow in the future.
