The main theme of this study is the relationships between climatic conditions and human activities. From a global level the analysis proceeds step by step to the local level, and discusses how a traditional subsistence economy is changed into a monocultural monetary one because of the pressure of external factors. The connections of monoculture to the environment are one-sided and it produces ecological problems as well as problems in the quality of life of human societies (subsistence malaise).
