Considérations nouvelles sur la flore et la végétation australiennes

Description :
It is only recently, however, that sufficient information has been gathered on past and present plant distributions to allow anything more than speculative reconstructions of the origins and development of the flora and vegetation. It is suggested that sclerophyll vegetation developed largely from a Late Cretaceous/Early Tertiary immigrant flora in response to drier climatic conditions in the Late Tertiary and to a dramatic increase in burning with the arrival of aboriginal man in the Late Quaternary. The status of plant communities is assessed in the light of this historical reconstruction.
