A best-fit evaluation of DeBrahm's 1770 chart of nothern Biscayne Bay, Florida

Auteur :
CHARDON, R.

Description :
A description and an evaluation of William Gerard DeBrahm's 1770 chart of northern Biscayne Bay, Florida, are presented for the purpose of reconstructing that region's natural environment in the 1770s period. As finally drawn, the chart exhibits several flaws uncharacteristic for a cartographer of DeBrahm's reputation. The fortuitous discovery of a working draft of his chart, and the application of a series of best-fit techniques, extend the metric reliability of the chart's Atlantic coastal barrier section to virtually all of northern Biscayne Bay and its shoreline, thus providing a good environmental data base for that region in that period.
