Retourmigratie van Mediterranen, Surinamers en Antillianen uit Nederland.. (Returnmigration of Mediterraneans, Surinams and Antillians from the Netherlands)

Auteur :
MUUS, P. J.

Description :
A comparative study of the migration movements of people of five Mediterranean nationalities in the Netherlands, West Germany and Switzerland. In the model used, return migration is determined by the labour market and migration policy in both country of origin and of destination, while the characteristics of the immigrant population (legal status, demographic composition, degree of assimilation) are also accorded a significant role. In Part 2, the scale of the migration from Surinam and the Antilles to the Netherlands has been mainly determined by political developments in Surinam and the constitutional relationship with Holland as well as by the economic malaise since 1975. The introduction of compulsory visas on 1. September 1980 brought immigration to a virtual halt, but a mass exodus has taken place. The immigration from the Dutch Antilles is small in scale and remigration level is high. The pattern remained stable through the seventies. (AGD).
