School cartography is a special theory of designing and using maps within the more general system of theoretical cartography. In the G.D.R., school cartography has developed into an interdisciplinary research field of its own through close cooperation among educal institutions and publishing houses, having a bias towards and receiving suggestions from practical work in schools.
