Description :
Observations on the aeolianite-red sand relationships in Natal and Israel are reported and compared. It is suggested that only originally highly calcareous sands (over about 25 % CaCO) were cemented into aeolianite in Natal. At a lower content of CaCO, decalcification and eventual soil formation took place without any cementation.
