Description :
Stable isotope analyses and radiocarbon dating indicate that the vlei silt deposit at Homeb accumulated between 23 000 and 19 000 BP. The calcrete above the S bank of the Kuiseb river at Homeb developed between 33 000 and 28 000 BP, indicating more humid conditions in the desert during Isotopic Stage 3. The carbonate cementing of the fluvial pebble conglomerate forming the 40 m terrace against the S bank took place at the same time. The sequence of aggradation and removal of sediments in the canyon suggest changing rainfall conditions in the interior since the middle of the last Glacial.
