Tisia és lemeztektonika. (Tisia and plate tectonics)

Description :
A rigid Hercynian massif controlling the structure of the Carpathians and Dinarides below the Neogene sedimentary cover of the Pannonian Basins named Tisia was supposed before the beginning of the systematic investigation of this area by deep borings and geophysics. The distribution of the Neogene volcanism as well as the thin crust and high heat flow found by these investigations revealed however the existence of an active young-alpine mantle arch. The area above the mantle arch subsides isostatically due to the changes in density of the lithosphere and to the subsidence of the thinned crust, producing the Pannonian Basins. Finally basaltic partial melt products of the mantled arch heated gradually by the volatile emanations extrude, too, in this area. This model was first delineated in the main lines 1965-1966 by the A. then discovered by American authors, too. They named it mantle diapir. This name is a misinterpretation of the term diapir but it is generally used. (CK).
