Description :
The models of abundance distribution of multispecific communities allow a better understanding of the structural organization of these communities. The writers first mention the ecological and functional hypotheses underlaying the construction of the four models currently used (Motomura, Preston, MacArthur and Mandelbrot). They then examine the choice criteria used at present. In view of deciding whether the distribution in the theoretical distribution planned for such and such model, and emphasize the narrow limits in the use of these criteria. They finally suggest another criterium of a general use, based on an assessment of distances between observed and calculated data. In addition, the problem of the representativeness of samples is broached by a simulation method. Numerical examples are presented.
