The problem of locating industry on artificial islands in the North Sea

Auteur :
WINKELMANS, W.

Description :
The idea of island industrialization as against port industrialization on the mainland of the 1970s, now calls for special attention. In view of the many substitutions and interaction possibilities in this field, a factor analysis is applied to detect the source variables. The first and main conclusion is the existence of a strong space-linkage with the most important location factors. Finally, in combination with an analysis of the ratings of relevant location factors, it is pointed out that many cost-price elements tend to harm the realization of an artificial industry island.
