Cressey Dymock and the draining of the Fens: an early agricultural model

In England under the Protectorate, new patterns of land-ownership and the draining of previously waste lands made more urgent the need to evolve rational methods of land use. The work of Cressey Dymock, one of the Hartlib circle, is presented in this light. His theoretical models of crop and livestock zonation are examined, and similarities between the theories and economic circumstances of Dymock and Heinrich von Thünen are explored.
