In the GDR the territorial concentration of the basic assets invested in the social infrastructure is fairly high. The function of the social infrastructure, the efficiency and the proportions of its elements are essentially determined by close correlations to the settlement structure involved. In the large towns, the extent and size of capacities involved and spatial organisation of the infrastructure are largely dependent on the local agglomeration of population, industry and other facilities. Altogether the large towns are extensivily provided with specialized and complex facilities of the social infrastructure. They will be modernised and extended within the framework of the complex housing programme up to 1990. (l'A.).
