3 districts (douars) located on the western outskirts of Casablanca illustrate how a mostly rural population adapts by each district with its social hierarchies forms an island preserved from the attractive but menacing city. Men's jobs bring in small incomes, but precarious economic conditions do not suffice to explain this marginalization. Being also cultural, its causes have to do with the difficulty of learning a new life-style.
