The sand-patch of Ponta Sao Lourenço, Madeira

Description :
Results derived from investigation of the sand-patch near the volcanic cone of Nossa Senhora da piedade on the peninsula of Ponta de Sao Lourenço in Madeira are described. Exposures by mining and the geological profile by ZBYSZEWSKI et al. (1975) made it possible to explain the formation of this for Madeira unique recent Quaternary sediment, with its abundance of gastropods which attracted the curiosity of investigators already in the beginning of last century.
