Douze ans d'avortement légal en Angleterre-Galles

Auteur :
MUNOZ-PEREZ, F.

Description :
Within the legal framework of the Abortion Act, 1967, the prevalence of abortion in England and Wales during the 1970s has been moderate. Considerable differences have been found in the behaviour of members of different groups. Between 1972 and 1976 demand for abortion fell for nearly all categories of women, as a result of the increased efficiency of contraception. These effects were consolidated by more frequent voluntary sterilization of couples who had attained their desired family size. Although increases in the number of abortions which have been recorded recently may be regarded as questioning our interpretation of the figures, the recent increase in fertility suggests the need for caution before accepting an hypothesis that there has been a reduction in the prevalence of contraception.
