Emigration from southern Tunisia has reached sizeable proportion that vary according to administrative division. The resulting social and economic rupture involves a transition from an economy with abundant to one with scarce manpower. After describing the mode of organization of production in traditional society-lineages, relation between participants in the agricultural production process, the hierarchies of groups and of positions the A. shows how colonization and the still ongoing emigration have perturbed this organization so as to endanger the area's agricultural economy.
