Nachtfroste im tropischen Hochland von Namibia eine klimatisch-geographische Skizze. (Gels nocturnes dans les montagnes tropicales de Namibie. Une étude climato-géographique)

GELLERT, J. F.

Description :
A substantial collection of climatological data is used to show both the regional distribution and the frequency of night frosts in the highlands of Namibia and the resulting plant physiological damages at temperatures below zero and temperature minima up to 5 Celsius. As already shown by Waibel (1922), night frosts and temperatures slightly above zero result from winterly cold air streams from the west wind zone in the southern hemispere. Their regional and local distribution are determined by the relief of the country. Night frosts occur all over the highlands in Namibia and extend even to the southern part of Angola and to the Kalahari Desert influencing the natural vegetation, the pastures for cattle and sheep and agriculture.
