A comparison between hot and cold desert soils and soil processes in Aridic soils and geomorphic processes.

Description :
Soils of the hot and cold deserts show many points of similarity. Many profile features, including the development of soil horizons, the distribution and chemistry of soluble salts and the presence of desert varnish are common to the soils of both hot and cold deserts. There are similarities in terms of weathering type, soil distribution pattern, and even ecology. The major differences between the soils of the hot and the cold desert are due to the almost complete unavailability of liquid water in most Antarctic soils. Various classifications of Antarctic soils are described and their position in various world systems discussed. A case is made for their inclusion in the Aridisols instead of being included as Cryic versions of Entisols.
