Pastoral zone in Cantal traversed a great crisis 1950, 1965 and then, economic reconversion, after 1965. Mountain pasture producing cheese, beef, pork, with much work-force is replaced by something like ranchnig. This new system works with a new kind of farmers (milk or meat producers) grouped into great cooperatives. Middle mountain around Aurillac and Rodez is the true core of progress and new transhumance. On the contrary, true mountain, highlands of Cantal, quitted the scene and rural society suffered deep depression. (L'éd.).
