Simen mountains Ethiopia: palaeoclimate of the last cold period (Late Würm) in Palaeoecology of Africa and the surrounding islands-Vol 13.

Description :
A detailed investigation of glacial and periglacial forms by mapping, analyses and genetic evaluations, makes it possible to reconstruct and approximately date the palaeoclimate of the last cold period in the Simen mountains of Ethiopia (13 N, 38 E: peak elevations Ras Dejen 4543 m). Thus, the most likely palaeoclimate was about 7 C cooler, and poor in run off and rainfall. It had a tendency towards winter precipitation and only occasional summer cloud cover, without monsoon activity, and remained relatively constant over a period of several millenia. In the climatic history of Ethiopia, the last cold period of Simen can be dated in the late Würm, between about 20,000 and 12,000 BP.
