On the basis of regional investigations in Svalbard, Greenland, and northern Canada. Arctic coasts are climatic-morphologically an independent perimarine zone. Coastal glaciation, cryoclastic cliff-formation, arctic shoreline pebbles, thermoabrasion und glacio-isostacy are dealt with. The author proposes taking the duration of glaciation and of coastal sea ice as a climatic-cryogenic criterion when subdividing the arctic perimarine zone as this enables differentiated geomorphodynamics to be included.
