Orogenesis and morphogenesis of outer Carpathians and plate tectonics

The orogenesis of the Outer Carpathians seems to be a result of the subduction of the oceanic part of Euroasian plate. The beginning of the subduction in the flysch basin seems to be in the Eocene more precisely at anomaly /53m.l. At this time an abrupt change in plates movement in the North Atlantic occurred as a result of a rift opening between Greenland and Europe. Compression started in the flysch basin. There are some proofs that the beginning of the compression was in the Eocene, and then compressional deformations migrated outwards across the basin. Those processes were accompanied by Carpathian orogenesis. Compressional deformations continued in subaerally conditions during the last phase. The upper limit of the orogenesis migrated outwards across the Carpathians. This agress with the diachronous scratching off deposits from a subducted plate. The orogenesis in the Carpathians occuried interruptedly and so-called orogenic phases alternated with periods of calm. But the results of an analysis of joints in the Nowy Sacz Basin seem to attest that, this region was under compression from at least the Eocene up to the Lower Bedanian Later, this region was exclusively under tension.
