Measurements of the extreme air temperatures in the region of Central-Brandenburg plateaus and lowlands allowed to analyse selected soil series of this area for their thermie properties and to classify them accordingly. Thus, the following grouping was made by the degree of air and soil temperature variations during the day: (1) Sand-Ranker, Sand-Rost-erde, (2) Sand-Braunpodsol, (3) Sand-Schwarzgley and related soil series, (4) Sand-Gley, Sand-Anmoor, Moor-Gley, (5) Sand-Gleymoor, Halbmoor, Niedermoor. On the basis of these climatological investigations into the terrain, it was possible to make statements on the thermalconductivity in the mentioned soil series groups and to give recommendations as to the danger of frost in the lowlands (moderate, strong, very strong).
