Description :
The author has investigated the functions od 183 Rumanian towns, which possessed city charters in 1966. She based the towns'characteristics on 19 properties defining urban functions. It is for the first time that the functions of Romanian cities have been investigated by means of a mathematical-quantitative model of the factor analysis, i.e. the algorism of main components. Eight principal types of Rumanian cities have been differentiated: five types of multi-function cities and three types of one-function cities. (l'A.).
