Factors contributing to the cultural stability of Samoa

Auteur :
HOLMES, L. D.

Description :
It is hypothesized that the majority of Polynesian societies which have undergone radical change are those with systems of social organization featuring primogeniture, senior lineages, social stratification and religious sanctions for chiefly authority. Samoa has neither primogeniture, senior lineages nor social stratification and there is only minor emphasis placed on the sanctity of chiefs. (L'A.).
