Obstacles to quantitative lithostratigraphic correlation in Geomathematical and petrophysical studies in Sedimentology. An international Symposium.

Description :
Accurate definition of discrete correlative intervals within long sequences will perhaps be the most difficult problem. Accurate identification of significant gaps or breaks in a stratigraphic sequence is troublesome and solution of the correlation problem will require a more detailed understanding of what effects these features have on various correlation methods. Accurate placement of boundaries once discrete units are recognized, seems to require multivariate classification techniques.
