The stratigraphic behaviour of chemical elements (CaC0, Mg, Sr, Fe, Mn, Cu, Ni, Cr and V) in the Niobrara Chalk, a sequence of rythmically deposited carbonate sediments, is characterized by dilution cycles of terrigeneous clay and volcanic ash, which may be recognized as the chemical zone of volcanogenic Mn, in the chemical stratigraphy.
