Description :
In the eastern Gulf, the upper sedimentary section on seismic profiles can be subdivided into three seismic-stratigraphic units. Computer generated isopach maps of each unit permit study of the Neogene-Quaternary regional depositional patterns. Sediments comprising the most recent unit exceed 3 km in thickness on the middle and upper fan. The second unit thickens rather uniformly to the north and north-west, suggesting the source also was from that direction. The oldest section mapped is distributed more uniformly over the area.
