Technological development: the structuring of industrial production and the impacts on living conditions. The case of Denmark

Auteur :
CHRISTENSEN, J. F.

Description :
Technological development is an important determinant of living conditions in the highly developed countries. But technological development cannot be understood as an isolated phenomenon. With reference to the Danish context, this article discusses how the economic cycles, the specific economic structure and state intervention affects the form and content of technological development, and how the mainstream of technological development once set in motion seems to have its own technical inertia. Further, it is discussed how technological development in connection with the macro-level of economic cycles, the medium-level of economic structure and the micro-level of individual business, tend to generate and reproduce an unequal distribution of employment and working conditions on the labour market.
