Description :
Pakistani immigration into France began with the closing of British frontiers to worker immigration in 1971. It took place in two waves of rather limited size: the first from the beginning of 1973 till spring 1974, the second from the second semester 1974 till the end of 1975. Each wave fought to obtain the regularization of its situation. The first led a long hunger strike which received wide publicity and ended in victory. The second's more isolated actions were unable to prevent violent police repression and massive expulsions.
