Is the data obtained by satellites of value to townplanners? This experiment, carried out on the Paris region, attempts to reply to this question by making an estimation as complete as possible of the relationship between radiometry measured by the Landsat satellite and land use. In spite of modest positive results, it would appear that the satellite is a new and additional tool which brings a new dimension to knowledge of the urban situation.
