Description :
The soils of an area in the North Eastern part of the Netherlands have been described. Since the extent of the dutch territory on these sheets is limited, the sheets 18 and 23 have been printed on one sheet, while the description has been combined with sheet 13. Except for the most northen part, covered by sea clay deposits, the soils described are mainly those of a formerly extended peat area in the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. The pleistocene sands, were covered by thick Holocene deposits of peat. Subsequent reclamation left peat and sandy soils. The present day landscape and the usability of the soils for various agricultural activities have been described. (AIS).
